Day 27 of 45

(I've made the decision and commitment to step up my health and fitness in preparation for my first sprint triathlon.  I plan on keeping a daily journal on my progress.  Check out my plans here: http://bit.ly/ixs0xO)

So after my learning experience the previous day, I decided to really go for it and biked 25k.  I had to stop and check the route on my phone and stop for traffic here and there so I didn't go as quickly as I would have liked.  However, I think I did a pretty good job and had a lot of fun too.  When I finished the adrenaline was pumping or something cause I still had some energy to burn (or at least I thought I did) and decided to do Insanity Cardio Abs before hopping in the shower.  Ya, once I got into the jumps the adrenaline went away and it was rough; but I did finish it and though sore, felt great afterwards.

The meals have been a little off lately, but not too bad.  However, I did make some cookies with Maddie and had a few ;)  Things are a little disorganized right now and will probably continue through the week, but hopefully will be better next week.

Meals
Chocolate Shakeology
Turkey sandwich & wheat thins
Tomato & Mozzarella salad
Chocolate cookies

Favorite Meal
The cookies were delicious, but so was the salad.  I feel much better about eating the salad than I do the cookies, so that's why it's my favorite.

I hope you have a big trunk because I'm going to put my bike in it.

Yep, I went ahead and finally got a bike.  Took it out for a ride and found that I'm a noob when it comes to riding.  I'll post a link to the stats below, but it was pretty much all just a learning experience getting used to handling it and the shifting.  It was also a learning experience figuring out where I was going to ride.  I tried to plan it out on Runkeeper, but it didn't work out so well.  I wanted to hit up the I&M Canal Trail, but ended up on a different one instead.  After I realized my mistake, I made it to the I&M one but it was gravel and I have a road bike.  So I went back to the trail I was on and messed around there for a bit.
(Again, no meal report)

Exercise:
Cycling
14.69k

The big day's coming up!  As I mentioned in the previous blog I was expecting to play 2 hockey games today and as such saved my energy for that.  I wish I could say that we won them both, but ended up losing in the championship game.  Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, I fell behind a little on my blog and forgot what I ate.  Things have been pretty hectic for me as of late and I'll try and do a little better with keeping this up to date.

Exercise
2 hockey games

(I've made the decision and commitment to step up my health and fitness in preparation for my first sprint triathlon.  I plan on keeping a daily journal on my progress.  Check out my plans here: http://bit.ly/ixs0xO)

I was a bit bummed that I didn't finish my run yesterday on a strong note so I went out today to do it again.  I don't know if it was the exercise from yesterday or the humidity, but at about the 3.5k mark I was gassed and had nothing left.  It was pretty disappointing as I've run 5k a few other times recently and haven't gassed out.  I was keeping a little bit faster pace than before, but I'm not sure that's what got me. Anyways, I've got at least one hockey game tomorrow (hopefully 2) and I'm not going to workout aside from that.  Hopefully I'll find time to run the next day and will be feeling well enough to finish the whole thing at a good pace.

Meals
Shakeology
Margarita Pizza
Apple slices and peanut butter
meal replacement bar
potato crusted cod and mashed potatoes

Favorite meal
I love potatoes so this one was a no brainer, but I was sort of distracted and forgot to take a picture again.

Exercise
Ran/walked 5k (Click here to see the stats from Runkeeper)

Day 23 of 45

(I've made the decision and commitment to step up my health and fitness in preparation for my first sprint triathlon.  I plan on keeping a daily journal on my progress.  Check out my plans here: http://bit.ly/ixs0xO)

Today was a lot of fun and started out by taking Maddie to the zoo.  It was pretty nice out today and as Maddie was taking her nap I couldn't decide whether I wanted to go for a run or swim, so I did both!  I hopped in the pool and swam about 600 yards (sprint triathlon is 437 yards).  Then I came inside, changed clothes and went out to run 5k.  I was feeling alright and on a good pace, but cramped up a bit around the 3k mark and had to take it easy.  I really should have put more thought into hydrating properly before doing all this.  It was still pretty fun though and I had a great day.

Meals
Poached egg, toast
Turkey sandwich and wheat thins
Shakeology w/peanut butter & skim milk
Meatball sandwich
Chicken sausage

Favorite Meal
It wasn't exactly the healthiest thing I could have ate, but if I'm going to be honest it was my favorite meal and was delicious.  I just didn't think to take a picture.

Exercise
Walked around the zoo with Maddie
Swam 600 yards

Meals
Shakeology w/ peanut butter and skim milk
Tomato and mozzarella sandwich
Meal replacement bar
Chicken Sausage and wheat thins

Favorite meal

I had a nice relaxing day today.  I was able to get in another 5k run and tried a different app to monitor my progress this time called Runkeeper (look me up as Coach Havi if you're on there).  It was pretty cool, but with about .5k left in my run I either accidently hit stop or lost the GPS signal.  I started it again, but didn't get accurate result information.  I'll have to give it another shot.  Maybe I'll write a blog about the differences between Runkeeper and miCoach with a recommendation from a newbie runner.

Meals:
Glazed doughnut (Maddie brought it home for me and I can't tell her, "No, I'm on a diet.")
Sushi
Chocolate Shakeology w/ peanut butter and skim milk
Stuffed pepper and stuffed zucchini

Favorite meal
The sushi was delicious, but was beat out by the pepper and the zucchini.

Exercise
Ran 5k

So today was the day I celebrated my birthday.  I went out with a friend to the horse track and then had a nice dinner after.  I didn't really eat all that good, but I didn't really overindulge either.

Meals
Meal replacement bar
chicken wings
prime rib sandwich & fries
Oreo cake

Favorite Meal
It was actually the prime rib sandwich, but I forgot to take a picture.  So here's 2nd place:

Happy Birthday to me!!!!  I didn't really do anything special today for my birthday, but my daughter did.  She had made me some presents plus she also put a couple candles in a breakfast bar and sang happy birthday.  I couldn't have asked for a better morning.  It was great!  I did get my workout in and eat pretty good for the day, though I'll admit I did have some Oreo ice cream cake.

Meals
Nutrigrain Breakfast Bar
Chocolate shakeology w/ peanut butter and skim milk
peanut butter and jelly toast
Marinated salmon & mashed potatoes
Oreo ice cream cake ;)

Favorite meal
Taste wise it was the cake of course, duh!  Really though it was the breakfast with my daughter.  That's something I'll never forget.

(I've made the decision and commitment to step up my health and fitness in preparation for my first sprint triathlon.  I plan on keeping a daily journal on my progress.  Check out my plans here: http://bit.ly/ixs0xO)

I really stepped it up today with my workouts, though Insanity wasn't included.  It was an awesome day out and Maddie was at her great-grandma's house so I decided to take advantage of the time and get some swimming in.  I thought I did alright as far as technique, it was easy enough to get back into a rhythm again.  However, I was a little concerned about my endurance with it.  I'm really going to have to start learning how to pace myself better.  I love the fast pace of Insanity and the interval workouts but it's sort of put me in a "go-go-go" type of mindset.  Anyways, I might have to make Wednesdays another run, bike, or swim day.

So later in the day I decided to check out a Beachbody fit club rather than stay home and do the Insanity workout.  We ended up doing P90X Cardio X and Ab Ripper X.  I had a great time and was glad I made the trip out there.

Meals:
Shakeology
Feta & Spinach Pizza
Peanut butter and jelly toast
Chopped Salad
Shakeology Ice Cream (ya, there's a recipe to make delicious and healthy ice cream!)

Favorite meal:
Was there even a doubt?  I think the calories for the whole bowl of it come out to about 350.

Exercise:
Swam about 1000 yards

Had a couple playoff games for my Tuesday night Upper league so I didn't do an additional workout.  I'm happy to report thought that we won them both and thus won the league thanks to my stellar defense, lol.

Meals:
Shakeology
Peanut butter and jelly toast
Pasta Fazool
Meal replacement bar
Granola bar

Favorite meal:
I apologize for picking Shakeology so much, but it's hard to beat chocolate and peanut butter.

Exercise:
2 games of inline hockey

Ugh, legs were pretty sore from running the previous day and I had a playoff game later in the day so I passed on the Insanity even though it was just scheduled for a fit test.  I wanted to make sure I had the energy for the game.  Will get back on Insanity Wednesday, Tuesday I should have 2 playoff games and want to stay fresh for them.

Meals:
Heartsmart Pancakes
Shakeology w/ peanut butter & skim milk
Granola Bar
Baked chicken w/ a small salad

Favorite meal:
Pancakes, though I forgot to take a picture til they were gone...

Exercise
An unfortunate hockey loss :(

(I've made the decision and commitment to step up my health and fitness in preparation for my first sprint triathlon.  I plan on keeping a daily journal on my progress.  Check out my plans here: http://bit.ly/ixs0xO)

It was a bit of a scorcher out but I got myself back on track with my workout plan.  I had decided I would use the Insanity rest days to work on one of the individual events of the sprint triathlon.  Last week I hopped on an exercise bike, today I went for a run in 95 degree heat and was soaked afterwards (see pic on the bottom, lol).  It felt good, but I realized that I need to really stick to the program as the run was tough.  I might need to incorporate some more running into my training.

By the way I used the Andriod app  miCoach by Adidas and it was pretty cool.  It uses GPS to track you stats and syncs with an online website.  There's a graph after your workout that shows your speed/intensity throughout the run and it cracked me up because you could pinpoint the times where I had to stop or slow down in order to pull up my pants.  I haven't bought any new workout/basketball shorts since I've lost the 40+ pounds and the ones I have don't fit too well.  So as I'm running I had to kind of tuck my shorts into my underwear so they wouldn't fall down.  Why am I telling you all this?  I don't know, but it wasn't embarrassing; in fact, I'm sort of proud to tell the story because it's just another example of how far I've come.

Meals:
Meal Replacement Bar
Turkey Burger & carrot fries
Shakeology
Chopped Salad

Favorite Meal:
The carrot fries weren't as good as last time, the turkey burger definitely was.

Exercise
Ran 3 miles
Stats from miCoach:
440 calories burned
About 8:50 per mile
(Me, soaked after my run)

These two days were a bit disappointing because I didn't get my workouts in again.  Friday I had to ump and planned on doing it after but stepped awkwardly.  I started the warm-up and didn't feel right so I didn't finish.  Saturday was a hectic day from start to finish and I just didn't have the time  I didn't eat horribly except for maybe at a birthday party, but rather than list what I did I'm just ready to move on in the right direction again.

Again I missed my Insanity workout.  I ended up golfing instead and had a blast, but I need to start making better choices.  I've got to start sacrificing those small fun things, like golfing when I haven't done my workout, to achieve that really great event I have 30 days from now.

Meals:
Shakeology w/ peanut butter and skim milk
Tomato & Mozzarella Sandwich
Peanut Butter Granola Bar
Nancy's Chicken Taco Salad (Didn't finish the whole thing of course and it's not as bad as it sounds)

Again I missed my Insanity workout, but I was scheduled to play 2 games last night and wanted to save some energy for those.  Nothing all that exciting to report, which is good I think.  I guess that means everything went well and it did.  The meals could have been better I guess, but you take what you can get when you're busy.

Meals
Shakeology
Chopped Salad
Shakeology
Meal Replacement Bar
Half chicken salad sandwich and wheat thins

Favorite Meal
I didn't have it the day before so I enjoyed it today, so much so that I had it twice. :P

Sorry for the delay here.  It may be hard to believe but I went a good 2 days without being on my computer and thus have fallen behind on the blogs.  So here's my recap from Monday.  It was a bit busy and I didn't get a chance to get in my Insanity workout.  Well I shouldn't say that, I had to ump for 3 hours and planned on doing it afterwards, but was asked to sub for someone in hockey and chose that instead.  I could have said no and went home to do Insanity, but I just can't say no to hockey.

Meals
This is the first time in a very long time I went a day without Shakeology.
Cinnamon Oatmeal
Apple slices and peanut butter
Meal replacement bar
Turkey Chili
Wheat thins and watermelon salsa

Favorite meal
Even though it was the left overs from the other day, it was still good stuff.

Exercise
Umping for 3 hours
1 hockey game

(I've made the decision and commitment to step up my health and fitness in preparation for my first sprint triathlon.  I plan on keeping a daily journal on my progress.  Check out my plans here: http://bit.ly/ixs0xO)

Today is supposed to be a rest day according to the Insanity calendar, but as I mentioned in my initial post, I'm going to use the rest days to work on a stage of the triathlon.  I had wanted to get in some swimming but unfortunately our pool is closed so I hopped on a stationary bike instead.  The goal was to do 6.2 miles (10km) at a pretty good pace.  This was my first time getting on a bike in a long time so I took it easy at first because I wasn't sure what to expect.  I'm happy to report though that I did pretty well I think.  I was going at a consistent speed, or level according to the bike, for the first mile or two.  Then I sort of zoned out and was thinking about other things; before I knew it I had gone up another level (which was about a 33% increase in speed) and felt great.  I kept up that pace and reached 6.2 miles in 19:48.  The funny thing is that I didn't want to stop, so I decided to go 2 extra miles.  I finished with a mile cool down for a total of 9.2 miles pedaled.  Overall, I felt pretty good and am pretty confident I'll do good at the sprint triathlon.  I can't wait!

Meals
Chocolate Shakeology w/ skim milk and peanut butter
Peanut butter and jelly toast
Pulled pork and potato salad
Fat free yogurt
A couple chocolate chip cookies (Maddie and I made cookies :) )
Chopped Salad

It doesn't exactly look like the best day in the world and I didn't stick to my meal plan, but it really wasn't all that bad either.  I only had a small portion of the pork and potato salad, and the two cookies I ate only came out to about 110 calories according to the package.  I'm not all that sure the chopped salad from Portillo's is all that health either.  I've looked up the calorie count in the past and get numbers that range from 350-500.  How accurate that is, I don't know; but if it's anywhere around there I'm okay.

Favorite Meal
Oops!  Forgot to take a picture, had to pull this from the internet.  It's the chopped salad from Portillo's. Yum!

Exercise
Stationary Bike

Meals
Poached egg & whole wheat toast (no hot tea though)
Cinnamon oatmeal
Roast Beef Sandwich and wheat thins
Turkey Chilli
Peanut butter & jelly toast and fat free yogurt

Favorite meal
It didn't really resemble chili that I've made before or that I'm used to, but it was delicious.

Today wasn't exactly a good day training wise as I spent the most of the day at a golf outing, but it's something planned and expected so it's all good.  Had a great time at the outing and came within a foot of a hole-in-one which was good enough to win closest to the pin.  Had a fun day overall, back to Insanity Saturday!

Meals:
Shakeology
Hot dog & chips
Grilled chicken & vegetables
Apple w/ peanut butter
Fat free yogurt

Exercise:
18 holes of golf, riding

Day 4 of 45

(I've made the decision and commitment to step up my health and fitness in preparation for my first sprint triathlon.  I plan on keeping a daily journal on my progress.  Check out my plans here: http://bit.ly/ixs0xO)

Today was a bit of a busy day.  I had lots of errands to run and I ended up choosing to golf instead of getting my workout in.  I did choose to walk instead of ride, but that's really not a replacement for the training I want.  So why tell you this?  Well to show that I'm not perfect and am far from it.  I was talking with someone about a month ago who reads my blog and sees my posts on Facebook and My Fitness Pal and she asked me "how do you not drink, not eat junk, exercise daily, etc.?"  That sort of took me by surprise and after thinking about it a while I realized that I might be giving people that impression which in turn may discourage people when they're not perfect.  I write my blog and publish posts because I don't think what I'm doing is remarkable in the sense that others can't do it too.  Therefore as much as I'd like to stroke my ego and create this image of perfect adherence to my plans, I want to be honest and transparent in the hopes that you'll gain some sort of inspiration from how I'm able to recognize my slips and use them to motivate me to do better.

Meals:
Chocolate Shakeology w/ peanut butter & skim milk
Roast beef sandwich & wheat thins
Meatball sandwich & wheat thins

Not exactly sticking to my plans there either, though I didn't really hurt myself.  I had planned on making turkey chili for dinner but didn't get home til late.  I had some homemade meatballs left over in the fridge so I put those on a whole wheat bun.  It's not the best meal for me, but it's not going to hurt me either.  What I'm not happy about is skipping the two other meals and not having a variety in there.

Favorite meal:

Exercise:
Walked 9 holes, which ends up being about 2 miles of walking while carrying a 40 (?) pound bag.
